On Wednesday 23rd February the History Society tried a first: a charity social on Wind Street. The idea for our social was taken from the popular Mean Girls quote “On Wednesday’s we wear pink” and involved members turning up to the event wearing one item of pink in aid of the breast cancer awareness charity Cancer Research UK. The event went down well with our members, with some even buying an item of pink specifically for the event. With the help of our sponsor bar Peppermint, where we held the event, we also managed to organise a number of pink drinks, with 50p from the price of each drink being donated to the charity.
The drinks were a hit with everyone there, with each person attending buying at least one of the pink drinks, as well as their usual drink orders. As well as this we also had collection buckets for spare change and donations on the door. Through these efforts we raised a lot of money for the charity and due to the popularity are thinking of running another event like it in the future. We also have planned for this term a number of joint society socials including our American Studies and History Society Frat Party on the 9th March in Peppermint and our annual Pub Golf with the Geography Society on the 14th April and are intending to finish off the year with our End of Year Dinner in Tapestri on the 11th May.
