Diners were asked to leave at around 4.30pm this afternoon.

One diner who didn’t want to be named, speaking to the Evening Post, said: ““We were in the restaurant and we were told to stay put by a waiter. I asked what was going on and they said there were reports of a man with a gun.

“A short while later we were ushered out of the restaurant, down the fire escape a couple of flights and in to a lift to the bottom. When we came out there were armed police there and they told us to move away.

“We spoke to a lady who had actually seen the man carrying a gun.”

The restaurant located on the 28th floor of Meridian Tower, the tallest building in Wales, is currently locked down.

A police helicopter is currently circling the area.

South Wales Police tweeted: “Co-operation and understanding from the public while officers deal with an ongoing incident at Meridian Tower Swansea is greatly appreciated”
