Family and friends release balloons in memory of Mitch

Students, family and friends celebrated in memory of Mitchell Lewis for his 22nd birthday.

Despite the storms, balloons were released at Dare Valley Country Park in his hometown Aberdare, a place where his time was often spent.

Well known in the student community, Mitchell suddenly passed away in May this year.

Sharon Lewis, Mitch’s mother, said:

“I just want to say thank you for everyone that came, especially given the weather, and for me personally it’s important to keep his memory going. It’s nice to keep in contact with his friends in Swansea that we don’t see often. I just wish everyone well, the ones that have graduated and the ones that have moved on now. I wish them long and happy futures.

“The university are planting an apple tree in memory of Mitch and that’s on the 18th January.”

Mitchell was in his second year and studying physics. He was well known in the student community through working in JC’s bar and for the Students’ Union as the Welsh Affairs Officer-elect.
