Hard work and talent rewarded at SUSU awards

The hard work put in by society and sports club members was rewarded yesterday (Sunday, 8 June) at Swansea University Students’ Union’s annual award ceremony.

The event, a garden party in the university grounds, featured entertainment from the Glee Society and Choral Society.

Vice chancellor Prof Richard Davies spoke of the university’s success in the recent WhatUni Student Choice Awards – in which Swansea was voted best overall university in the UK – to great applause.

The following awards were presented:

Student Rep of the Year
Highly commended – Nick Short, Isabel Costello, Jamie Grimshaw, Laura Bailey
Winner – Nick Short

Best Student Led Event
Highly commended – Fashion Society Fashion Show Oktoberfest, Yule Ball
Winner – Eisteddfod

Innovation and Enterprise Award
Highly commended – SUCs
Winner – Konetics Society

Best Student Led Campaign
Highly commended – Pole Fitness Society, People and Planet Fossil Free Swansea
Winner – Invisible Illness Campaign

Positive Swansea Award
Highly Commended – St John Links, Choral Society, Swansea Student Minds
Winner – Swansea University Netball Club

Cultural and Diversity Award
Highly commended – Pagan Society, Global Café
Winner – Hellenic Society

Student Staff of the Year Award
Highly Commended – Daniel Mattingly, Alex Bailey, Courtney Vasile, John Fanning, Lindey Whitehouse
