Nikita Shadrach is a 21-year-old student studying Law at Swansea University. She comes from a small village called Pontarddulais, speaks Welsh fluently, and for the first time ever she is competing to become the next Miss Wales.
The Miss Wales competition has been going since the 1950’s. In recent years, it has grown to become more popular than ever with around 1,000 women registering an interest in the competition each year. In the last 10 years, the competition has raised nearly £500,000 for children’s charities in Wales. Miss Shadrach has joined thousands of women who have already used the platform to make a huge difference, bringing attention to the ‘Beauty with a Purpose’ charity which helps disadvantaged children. Already, Nikita has raised £948 throughout the last 6 months of being a finalist while also studying for a law degree – balance is apparently key. The inspiring finalist has held her very own charity curry night fundraiser and raffle which was a huge success, climbed Pen Y Fan, sold cupcakes at university, hosted a charity Halloween raffle and a sponsored charity wedge walk.
Making a difference positively is very important to Nikita. She believes that it’s our duty of giving something back to our communities, and the beauty of the competition is that each finalist is making a huge difference together. The competition has guided Nikita in the right direction on how she can do her own charity work and raise money for ones who need her attention the most. She is very thankful for this opportunity and feels blessed to be a part of such an inspiring competition.
The journey to become Miss Wales really is overwhelming, and Nikita believes it would be an honor to represent a country which is loved by so many.
The grand final will be a three-day event ending with the crowning of Miss Wales 2016 on Saturday 16th of April. Click here to find out more about the Beauty with a Purpose charity or to vote for Nikita.
