New franchise Crayola FC began their debut campaign with friendly defeat to last season’s league champions Swansea University 6ths, last tuesday.
The match gave both captains an opportunity to test new formations and trial hopeful players.
Played in an unexpected searing heat, the match began slowly, with players appearing lethargic after the summer break.
Crayola spurned a few early chances and were made to pay when their newly signed player ,former 6ths’ captain Hitesh Patel, scored an own goal whilst trying to defend Jack Evans’ cross.
Matthew Jenkins and Tom Cummings were proving a potent combination in the Crayola midfield, although as the game wore on both teams seemed to tire.
After the half-time break, 6ths’ started to take control of the game with Matthew Bennett striking the woodwork no less than five times.
Tom Rowlands eventually scored to make it 2-0 after rounding the ‘keeper.
Crayola FC, although defeated, proved they will be a match for anyone in the league, and their captain Ben Phipps will be hoping for big things from his lads.
