Swansea University men’s hockey teams are hoping to build on last year’s successful season.
With the first and third team finishing safely in the middle of their Saturday leagues, and the seconds narrowly missing out on promotion in the Wednesday Bucs league, club captain Andrew Roberts is hoping a large sponsorship deal will aid in fighting for success on all fronts.
“Over the summer we aquired, sponsorship from Manor IT Consulting, based in Bristol,” he said.
“The club was in some financial difficulties but the sponsorship means we can clear our debts, update the clubs kit and training equipment and begin to be more independent.”
After finishing comfortably in the Davis Wood League, and in Bucs, the first team are looking to push forward in both leagues.
Captain Joe Haworth feels concentrating generally on becoming a more professional unit can only help in this respect, and also hopes it will allow them to build a Varsity winning squad.
With experienced players returning for masters, Haworth has a strong base on which to build.
The thirds secured a place in their weekend league for a second year and they now want to push for promotion.
