Becky Gosney believes Swansea University’s women’s hockey team are ready for the new season after seeing off a strong UWE side.
Kire Davies and Carys Tucker were on target as their goals secured victory for Swansea.
“We played awesome, we dominated the match and had most of the possession,” said captain Gosney.
“Considering they play in the league above us and we’ve only trained together twice, it was great to get a win.
“We are definitely ready for the new season with a lot of new freshers coming into the 1st team squad.”
Swansea started brightly and their superior play was rewarded in the 11th minute when Kire Davies broke the deadlock after scoring from close range.
The finest moment in the match, however, must be awarded to Carys Turner in the 24th minute after her powerful run through the UWE defence into the D allowed her to drive a shot away which flew into the goal.
Credit must also be given to both goalkeepers who made a series of stunning saves with various limbs as they were constantly bombarded with shots from short corners.
