Women’s hockey want more success

Hockey(3of38)-February 29, 2012 (Small)

The women’s hockey club is one of the most established clubs in the Swansea University athletic union, boasting three teams and are hoping for success this year on all fronts.

Women’s hockey had a lot to celebrate about last season, with the 1sts getting promoted in their Saturday league and humbling Cardiff’s team in the annual Varsity match in their own backyard.

Speaking to various members of the new women’s hockey executive committee (Gemma Cliffe, Becky Gosney, Kelly Downward, and Danielle Hunt) at last week’s freshers fayre, they are hoping to emulate last season’s heroics with another promotion for the 1sts, this time in the Bucs league.

They are also confident in upholding the strong team spirit of the previous year as very few members have left the club.

The committee agreed the Varsity victory was a moment to cherish from the previous year, as it was made even more sweeter considering the difference in league status, with Cardiff being two leagues higher than Swansea.
