Blackboard blackout hours before exams

SWANSEA students were left without access to Blackboard services and emails less than 24 hours before the exam period is set to begin.

The service was updated by Information Services and Systems yesterday. Following the update, several students began to complain that they were unable to access their emails and parts of Blackboard.

The services have been down all day, with several students complaining on the Swansea University Students’ Union Facebook Page. One student, Oliver Fernihough, wrote: “It’s affecting my exam situation! I need to arrange special exam considerations and cannot due to emails being down!”

In a Facebook post, Students’ Union President, Zahid Raja said: “A number of students have complained about Blackboard and emails being down. I’ve alerted the University. I’ll post updates here as and when I hear them.”

Following this, the Students’ Union Facebook page commented on a thread stating: “We’ve been able to get through via text to the head of Information Services and Systems so we should get a resolution shortly to the whole episode.”

The problems have now been fixed and the services are running as normal.
