FAST action by residential services staff prevented a potential disaster when a fresh water main burst on the 9th floor of Penmaen flats.

The block was evacuated after an incident around 12.30pm on Tuesday, September 3.

A small number of residential services and occupational health staff as well as the university health centre were evacuated and no-one was injured.

The fire department arrived on scene at 12.45pm at the water mains were successfully turned off and the leak stopped around 1.15pm.

Repairs to the building have now been completed.

A university spokesperson said: “Due to the quick response from our residence services team a potential disaster was averted and everything is now back to normal and with no adverse effect on the building. The accommodation is now ready for the student arrival.”
