Police are investigating the cause of a fire which has closed the student nightclub Sin City.

A fire started behind the club in the car park in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Fire crews from Swansea Central, Swansea West and Morriston were called to the scene to tackle the blaze.

The Students’ Union has confirmed only the cellar was damaged by the fire and there is no structural damage. The club has now closed for repairs.

Proprietor Gary Lulham said: “The legendary Sin Savers will be taking a much deserved rest as will our Saturday night activities. Face/Off will also be on holiday rocking out to his favourite tunes. All gigs are going ahead as planned and tickets are available from all usual locations. The team are on hand to answer any and all questions you might have so just give us a call on 01792 468892.”

Replacing the alcohol store for the club could cost thousands of pounds and insurers and loss adjusters are currently looking into the matter.

Mr Lulham, known as “Big G”, confirmed nobody was in the premises at the time and nobody was injured.

He went on in a statement to say: “Due to existing fire precautions taken by the nightclub the fire was isolated to the rear of the venue and no customer areas were affected.”
