Students’ Union president-elect Ajing Jipur has resigned from taking up his role in 2015-2016.
Since being elected in February, the final year international relations student has been unable to get a visa to allow him to stay in the UK for another year.
The SU has announced that nominations will open for the election of a new president on Monday 8th June.
AJ, as Ajing is known, was elected on a platform of creating an express bus service between the two campuses, improving the lighting in Singleton Park, and opening a Bay Campus office.
As current part-time international officer, he also pledged to make the important post full-time once more.
Scott Farmer, SU interim leader, said: “AJ is someone who has been passionately involved in representing the voice of students at Swansea for a number of years and I know was very passionate about taking up the role next year. Therefore it is vital we take on his vision for the organisation as we plan our future.”
AJ is the second officer to resign following the elections. Alys Chapman stood down as societies and services officer-elect the day after being elected. In a re-run, Sam Wonder Uche was elected to the post.
