The Waterfront’s resident Agony Aunt, Rhydian Morris, answers your burning questions!
Dear Agony Aunt,
I’ve recently broken up with my boyfriend and I’m feeling so down now that it’s Valentine’s day, I don’t really know how to get over it.
Well first of all the worst thing you could possibly do is head to Sin on Saturday and attempt to pull out of loneliness! It honestly never ends up being the start of an amazing happy Valentine’s day. It’s really horrible breaking up with someone and it’s entirely understandable you will be feeling down and emotionally vulnerable right after. It absolutely does not help that it’s so close to Valentine’s day, where the media pushes this ridiculous stigma over being single! Really the best thing to do to feel happier is to just accept that you might be abit miserable some days and nights this week and don’t pressure yourself into feeling happy constantly. Make sure to not succumb to the pressure of going out and falling into the arms of the first guy you see, as the rebound this close to Valentine’s day is something to avoid if your looking to stop being down. To give you some comfort, the weekend after Valetine’s day has one of the highest rates of breakups statistically, so if nothing else you can take comfort that even people in relationships might be just as miserable at this time of year!
Dear Agony Aunt,
I’ve been interested in this guy but I’m really worried about messaging or texting him first, is it too needy or forward for the girl to message first?
If you like him message him! If you don’t he might never message you and so your left wondering about what might have been. I don’t think I have ever met a guy that would find a girl messaging them first to be too needy or forward. There are limits of course, if your constantly spam messaging every hour then yes that’s very needy, but opening up the conversations yourself is perfectly fine. Guys do get nervous too and you messaging first might the beginning of a beautiful fulfilling relationship that will last long after university! More likely it won’t, but you will feel much better about taking charge of your life and going after what you want, if they find it weird or needy who really cares! In the end you miss one hundred percent of the chances you don’t take.
