STUDENTS can now purchase Swansea University hoodies and merchandise from the new Students’ Union shop, Fulton Outfitters.
As part of a huge redevelopment of Fulton House, the new clothes shop was given a grand opening this morning, when Societies and Services Officer, Josh Hayman, made the first purchase.
Speaking of his delight at the new venture, he said: “Out of all the Students’ Unions I’ve visited I’ve never seen anything like this. I’m very proud to see this open.”
The self-styled “Shabby Chic” look incorporates a relaxed and homely feel, whilst the reasonably priced clothes (£15.99 for a hoodie) look well-made and substantial.
Umbrellas, jogging bottoms and gillets are all being sold, alongside the new Sport Swansea kits when they arrive.
Annie Cottam, PR Co-ordinator on merchandising said: “Come back regularly because we’ll be updating our stock.”
The clothes on sale are all ethically manufactured and WRAP certified and a limited range of clothes are “Earth Positive”.
The launch however didn’t go entirely successfully, with the till systems not operation due to a computer glitch, cashiers are being forced to write sales down in a notepad.
Café Blas (Welsh for flavour) opened right next door and serves coffees and pastries.
The new Costcutter supermarket will be opening next Tuesday (23rd October), which will see a huge variety of groceries sold.
Half-owned by the Students’ Union and the University, students were assured it would greatly increase the choice they have on campus, with the new shop opening until 10pm.
The new development has gone down well, with student Jake Wilson commenting: “It feels a bit like East Midlands Airport.”
