STUDENT homeland is to host a monthly produce market which has “huge interest” across the city.

The proposed takeover of Gwydr Square, which would see roads closed and a pedestrian zone erected would bring market stalls from the city centre right into the heart of Uplands.

Organiser Gordon Gibson said: “We wanted to bring a local produce market to Uplands for some time.

“Uplands has so much going for it: a mix of people from families, to older people and students, and strong culture with Dylan Thomas’ birthplace, as well as being the heart of Swansea’s thriving creative community.

“Since we announced it on Facebook and Twitter we’ve been overwhelmed by the response of people who want a stall and people who can’t wait to visit Uplands.”

The market, which will also feature live music from local musicians will take place on the last Saturday of each month.

The first event is expected to take place on July 27, 9am – 1pm.

The Uplands Crescent and other major roads will remain open, with some diversions.
