Waterstones Makes Way For Saucy Store

The campus bookstore, Waterstones will be closing at the end of April, to make way for an Ann Summers store.

The University wouldn’t be drawn into what would be replacing the closing store, with a spokesperson saying: “The University is currently in negotiation with four companies to ensure the continuity of this service on campus.  As discussions are ongoing we are not able to name any of the companies.”

But a press release from Ann Summers confirms that they have secured a spot on campus, wanting to “enhance the intimate energy of the younger generation”, adding it would be giving away free samples during Freshers’ week to keep students safe and to “see the new academic year in with a bang”.

Due to open at the beginning of September, the sexy store has also confirmed that it will be seeking students to launch their own businesses as Ann Summer party resellers. A scheme similar to the Avon catalogues, where distributors would receive a percentage of the order, in an attempt to “boost student spending power”.

Fears were raised by the National Union of Students (NUS) that W H Smiths were looking to take over the spot, with a massive push by the stationary chain to secure on-campus retail outlets.

This was branded as “ludicrous” by the Students’ Union as the W H Smiths chain would compete with the University’s own franchise, CostCutter.
