Swansea students have voted overwhelmingly in favour of adding a sports officer to the students’ union from next academic year.

A massive 93% of voters backed the changes in the four-day referendum, with only six percent voting no.

The students’ union will now have a full-time officer team of seven and elections for all those positions including the election of the first ever sports officer will take place in March.

Election review enacts changes to electoral system

NEW election amendments have been passed in an effort to fix problems raised by the Election Review Committee early last week.

The motion was raised at the December Student Forum meeting and passed in almost its entirety.

Parts were called into the gender balancing quota, which called for 50% of places in NUS UK delegate to be reserved for women.

Red ribbon and cake sale held on campus to mark World Aids day

STUDENTS marked world AIDS day with a cake and red ribbon sale in the foyer of Fulton House.

STUDENTS marked world AIDS day with a cake and red ribbon sale in the foyer of Fulton House.

The event which is celebrated on December 1 each year helps to raise money and awareness of the fight against HIV and AIDS and also aims to educate people further on the matter.

In previous years, the events have been run with a societal perspective.

Nominations Close Thursday For SU Elections

NOMINATIONS FOR Student Union Sabbatical Officer election candidates will close this Thursday, and we at The Waterfront decided to find out what students thought about this year’s nomination process and the upcoming election.

Candidates who want to run in the upcoming elections still have until Thursday the 24th February to gather their signatures.
