Following a successful Welsh Assembly election for Labour on May 5th, First Minister Carwyn Jones has been re-elected unopposed for a second term. He will head a new-look Labour-led and newly-named Welsh Government.

After weeks of suspense the Summer Ball line-up has today been announced by Swansea Student Events.

The line-up includes big names such as Kate Nash, Chase and Status and London rap project lead by Mike Skinner, The Streets take to the stage at Abbey Meadow on the 15th June.

Swansea Student Events Assistant  Simmo Simmons told the Waterfront, “We really looked at the type of music students are into and tried to diversify and incorporate everyone’s tastes as much as possible.”

UK Prime Minister David Cameron was in Swansea on April 1 to boost the Welsh Conservatives’ campaign ahead of the Welsh Assembly election on May 5.

Mr. Cameron, addressing party members at the Guildhall, spoke of a difficult year financially, as well as recent British involvement in the Libyan conflict. Addressing funding cuts and the railway electrification from London to South Wales were high on the Welsh agenda.

Wales’ Deputy First Minister, Ieuan Wyn Jones visited Swansea University on March 29 to formally announce funding of £15m for the second campus project on Fabian Way.

                The announcement comes only a day after Senior Management’s proposal to cut the Modern Foreign Language Department staff by more than 50% was rejected by the University Council.

On the 5th May a referendum will be held on a change of the voting system for parliamentary elections. The referendum will take place, the same day as elections for the Scottish Parliament, Welsh Assembly, Northern Irish Executive as well as some English council’s.

You can keep using the First Past the Post system to elect our politicians, or you can choose a new system, Alternative Vote (AV).

A formerSwansea student experienced the recent earthquake which triggered the devastating tsunami in Japan.

The Waterfrontexclusively spoke to the former Sports Editor, Carl Day, who currently works for the British Council teaching local staff English.

Carl had just finished work on Friday 11th March when the 9.0 magnitude earthquake struck the country.
