Swansea students have voted overwhelmingly in favour of adding a sports officer to the students’ union from next academic year.

A massive 93% of voters backed the changes in the four-day referendum, with only six percent voting no.

The students’ union will now have a full-time officer team of seven and elections for all those positions including the election of the first ever sports officer will take place in March.

Freshers begin petition for change in daily village bus grind

An online petition has been started about the bus service 82A which runs between the university and the student village.

An online petition has been started about the bus service 82A which runs between the university and the student village. Over 80 signatures have been collected since the petition began on the 1st of November, all in protest of the lack of buses and the long queues that students have to face on a daily basis.

University and Colleges Union strike set to cause disruption to lectures on Wednesday

SWANSEA University academics will join an estimated three million public sector workers in a one-day strike over pensions on Wednesday.

Members of the University and Colleges Union, the union for academic staff, will join members of 19 other trade unions in what’s anticipated to be the biggest strike for a generation.

Mexican journalist sacked

Freedom of the press has been brought in to question in Mexico over the sacking of well-known radio and TV journalist Carmen Aristegui, following comments calling for President Calderon to respond to claims over alcohol problems allegedly plaguing him.
