NATIONAL STUDENT SURVEY LAUNCH

The 2011 National Student Survey (NSS) was launched at Swansea University on Monday 7th February. The NSS is an annual survey of final year undergraduates across the UK which provides data on the student learning experience at UK Universities for prospective students.

UNI CLIMBS TO CLAIMS BEST SOCIAL LIFE IN WALES

SWANSEA UNIVERSITY has climbed six places in the Times Higher Education Student Experience Survey.

SWANSEA UNIVERSITY has climbed six places in the Times Higher Education Student Experience Survey.

Previously placed 29th out of the 113 institutes, Swansea climbed to 23rd with a score 79.13.

Although the University has risen in the rankings over the past year, Swansea was once top of the survey when they beat 170 other UK institutes in 2005 for the coveted Best Student Experience Award.

Some of the leading UK universities such as Oxford and Cambridge have slipped in ranking with Cardiff University dropping four places.

LIS Bag Civil War Books

 

SWANSEA UNIVERSITY library is now the home of the largest collection of books on the American Civil War in the UK.

The collection was donated last summer by Alan Milne from Cardiff. He spent nearly 30 years of his life collecting 2,000 books on the Civil War, many of them primary sources including soldier diaries, naval war records and presidential papers.

 

SWANSEA UNIVERSITY library is now the home of the largest collection of books on the American Civil War in the UK.

The collection was donated last summer by Alan Milne from Cardiff. He spent nearly 30 years of his life collecting 2,000 books on the Civil War, many of them primary sources including soldier diaries, naval war records and presidential papers.

“It’s unusual for a library in this country to have such a collection,” said Ian Glen, subject librarian for the Arts and Humanities team.

THE FUTURE of the university system in Wales has been placed into doubt with the announcement that a merger of three institutions has been agreed.

Members of the University of Wales Council have been discussing the possibility of the formation of a so-called ‘super university’, with the eventual aim of reducing the number of separate institutions from eleven to six.

SECOND CAMPUS GIVEN GREEN LIGHT

A newbeachfront campus finally looks set to get the go-ahead after gaining Assembly funding.

The Bay Science and Innovation Campus, located off Fabian Way, is set to begin construction after a delay over funding.

Doubts over the campus arose after the Assembly Government were unable to complete an agreement over funding. As a result oil giant BP, who are offering the land free of charge, expressed concern and revealed that their offer was “time sensitive.”
