TEN unemployed people from France have been visiting Swansea to improve their English and their job prospects, writes Samuel Laporte. 

Florence Antoine, one of the group who is working in the student travel shop on campus, said: “My job at the university is a huge chance for me because I have contact with students and staff of various nationalities. 

This allows me to practice English and learn to understand English spoken with many different accents.”

SWANSEA University struggled against tough competition in Edinburgh’s Braids 2011 cross country event finishing just outside the top ten in both the men’s and women’s categories.

Edinburgh University won both team events with Swansea finishing 11th in the women’s event and 13th in the men’s.

Edinburgh also came out on top in the individual events with Claire Ward from the ‘HBT’ running club coming in at 18min 34sec.

Intramural Remembers
A HUMBLING moment for all came prior to kick off at last Sunday’s rescheduled fixtures. Everyone involved with intermural showed great respect to the people who have lost their lives fighting for what they believe in. The league organising committee were said to have been filled with a sense of great pride, at witnessing everyone behaving in the right manner as the minute silence was conducted.

CERIS Challenger admitted she underestimated her opponent but praised her team mates who secured victory despite her defeat. 

Swansea’s captain Challenger faced off against Southampton’s Stephanie Chase.

Challenger found it difficult to get herself into the game, and her opponent outplayed her (11-4, 11-6, 11-8).

TWO SWANSEA students, Chris Church and Ash Gardner, are set to spend their Easter holidays on a gruelling 315 mile trek across isolated regions of mid-Wales in order to raise money and awareness for Cancer Research UK.

Six people were killed and another six injured after a Belfast to Cork flight crashed due to severe fog on Thursday 11th  February.

The small commuter plane crashed on the runaway after its third landing attempt. The flight had already encountered weather problems after being rescheduled and moved to Belfast International airport due to fog surrounding George Best Belfast City airport.
