The toilets at JC's bar in Fulton House where the traces of cocaine were found
Cocaine found in JC's
25th September 2006
Swansea University's JC'S Bar is among several venues that have tested positive for cocaine following an investigation by the South Wales Evening Post. An investigation carried out by the newspaper has revealed that cocaine has been found in toilets in several public toilet facilities in Swansea, including the Monkey Bar, Escape, The Ice Bar, and also the City Hall run by the council.
A spokesman from the University said that "The University takes a very serious view of any illegal drug usage on campus. We are always vigilant and, in addition to our own security staff, there is a positive presence on campus through the University's community Police Officers."
The tests were carried out using cocaine testing wipes. The FBI approved wipes turn blue when they come into contact with cocaine or crack cocaine.
Police and drugs workers have admitted that the use of cocaine is common in Swansea and other parts of South Wales. Various media stories linking the drugs to celebrities have been blamed by drug councilors for making it a popular substance.
Detective Inspector Paul Henwood, of Swansea CID, said that "this city has much less of a problem with drugs than other places in England and Wales."
