Swansea motors to efficiency

A team of nine student engineers from Swansea University have been awarded the title of 'Most Fuel Efficient Car' in an international competition to find the best student designed and built formula racing car.

The competition was held at the Hockenheim Circuit in Germany which plays host to the German Formula One Grand Prix.

The S6 car built by the student team had to be put through its paces and pass a stringent inspection by the judges.

Mark Daniels, a member of the University's technical staff, said, "The high build quality of the car satisfied even the most meticulous of the German judges."

The Formula Student competition consisted of a series of events including a business presentation, design judging and an event to judge the cost efficiency of each car.

The team finished the event in 22nd place overall in a highly competitive competition against some of the best student teams in the world.

Dr Ian Masters, project co-ordinator, was very pleased with the team's efforts and praised the team saying, "The team had a fantastic year considering that many of them have had to balance their studies for their final exams."
