AU Sport in Brief

This issues round up of the AU sport, including a round up of the latest Lacrosse match, and a round up of the Intra-Mural.

Mens Lacrosse

Wednesday 15 November saw light to the first big tournament for Swansea Lacrosse of this term. The Swansea Hawks 2nds Men's team headed to Bath to play in an 8 way tournament against some familiar rivals including UWIC, Bath, Portsmouth and Gloucester. The newly formed 2nds team have only trained together and not yet experienced serious game time such as this so it was time to put the skills and knowledge to the test.

After an early defeat against Southampton in the first stages Swansea fought back to take a shot at the 1st place position. After easily beating Bristol and Exeter the real test was the shot at 1st place. However after closely losing to UWIC the strength of the opposition made it tough for the team to turn it around and overall had to settle for 4th place. 2nds Captain Jon Bevan said, "It was a tough tournament against some tough opponents but overall we knew that we deserved that first place".

Congratulations to Tom Thacker who got man of the tournament for the Swansea side for an outstanding performance all round.

Lifesaving

On the 18 November the Swansea lifesaving squad headed to Warwick for the second Lifesaving competition of the year. After a great deal of hard work they managed to beat their closet rivals, Bath, and have now reached fifth in the BULSCA league.

During the weekend there was much celebration amongst the team as every member completed the rope throwing relay event in the given time, which they had been working hard on so were glad to see it pay off. The other events included a manic mum whose baby was trapped under a collapsed wall and a frantic canoe team with a man overboard, for the members of the team to try and tackle.

After the competition we swapped our swimming gear for our London Underground costumes and headed off to the social, in Warwick's SU bar, and a good time was had by all.

Intra-Mural Roundup

After the opening two games of the season Alabama Young Boys are sitting atop of League One, with two wins under their belt and still yet to concede a goal in the competition. In League Two, after only two fixtures actually being finished due to bad weather, Swansea Bay Bucaneers are top on goal difference from Locomotive Bryn Mill.

In other League One news, there are four teams tied in second place on three points, including past champions Team Sloth, as well as Engineering who have a good squad this season and are expected todo well. Sharing second place are the two University teams, the sixths and sevenths, although the sixths have played a game more. Looking closer to the the bottom of the table, Geography and Poker in the back are propping up the table without a point between them.

Weather has affected many of the fixtures so far this season, but a week or so of fair weather should mean the leagues and cup are up to date by the christmas break. The intra-mural website is now up and running as part of the AU website. Keep up to date at www.suau.co.uk/intramural
