The Drama Society is once again having a very busy term with not one but three plays currently on the go! "The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui" is there next up-coming production which promises to offer something a little different.

There most recent production of "The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui" is a parody of Hitler's rise to power, using gangsters to portray the story, set in Bristol and London it should be an interesting production and definitely not one to miss out on. Directed by Daniel Entwistle, the production is set to be a big success.

It will be shown at the Dylan Thomas Theatre, here in Swansea on 14 and 15 December at 7.30pm. If you would like tickets they are £6.50 and are available from the Ents office or the Dylan Thomas Theatre box office, where the performance is being held.

As well as this exciting play, they will also be having early next year, in the mist of the pantomime season they will be showing their version of the classic fairytale Cinderella. This should be shown on 7 and 8 February in DV8 just after the exams have finished. It promises to be a fairly lighted hearted version, with an evident student twist involved.

Carrying on with the busy schedule of the Shoreline theatre, they also have a production of Shakespeare's classic love story Romeo and Juliet planned for the 22 and 23 February, which will be performed in the Taliesin. Look out for more information about when the show is going to be played to audiences.

The Drama Society is otherwise known as the Shoreline Theatre, and they are perhaps one of the most popular of Swansea's societies with numerous members. A large proportion of them regularly participate in the upcoming and current productions.

The drama society really do offer something for everyone, whether you're a budding actor or more a behind the scenes type person, commonly known in the industry as a technician, there really is something for everyone.

The technician's have a very varied role behind the scenes, they do everything from sound and lighting to props and costumes. There are also chances to do makeup and even to stage manage a production which is always a challenge. You certainly don't have to be able to act to be a part of the Shoreline theatre, as there are many other role available within the society.

Many members are involved in more than just one of the plays, whether it is helping out backstage, acting or doing both! The society has twice weekly rehearsals on Monday and Thursday's, with an extra rehearsal on Sundays as the performance date looms. The amount of dedication that individuals put into the society is paramount to its success and a credit to the students who regularly participate.

As with any society they have a very active social scene, ranging from pub quizzes to nights out down Wind Street. They also have their annual Christmas ball coming up which is being held on 5 December in Revolutions on Wind Street. As well as performing their own plays they like to go and watch local performances of other plays all over Swansea, to not only for the enjoyment of seeing a show, but also to get inspriation to put into their own productions.

In the future they have plans for yet another production, this time of The Wonderful World of Dissocia which is a play that was commissioned for the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. This play promises a intriguing drama looking at the mental health of the lead character and the fictional world of Dissocia, the critics have raved about this play and the Shorleine Theatre hope to be showing this sometime in May.
