Greener car journeys

Peter May, Local Liberal Democrat Councillor, has asked students for their views on how to make their journeys to campus greener.

Since the beginning of the year, there has been a 10c increase in cars parking in the recreation ground. Even though the council has raised the car parking charge from £1.20 to £1.50 more people are still using cars.

A study carried out last year showed that 80c of students using the recreation ground were arriving alone in their cars, with no passengers.

Peter May said that "I would like your input into making a greener and fairer system for students travelling to university." Peter May would also like students to answer the questions below and email the responses to him in order to find a better solution.

Do you, for example, think that there should be a discount season ticket for students who live at home but travel over 5 miles to and from university and have to commute?

Do you think that there should be a sliding scale parking charge based on the number of occupants in the car with those who travel alone paying a higher price for parking?

What do you think of the public transport links to the university from where your home is and how can they be improved?

If you use your car to come to university where do you come from and where do you park?

Do you think that the university should provide a multi-story car park for students?
