Student Safety Bus

Swansea University Students's Union in cooperation with Paul Sheppard, manager of Time and Envy clubs in town, have launched a free, women only bus service.

The bus will pick both men and women up outside Fulton House at 8p.m on Mondays and Wednesdays and will drop them off outside Time and Envy clubs. The bus will leave outside Time and Envy at three points between 1.30 a.m. and 2.30 a.m. to take women back to the student village via Uplands. The bus will not drop off at student addresses but will stop on request at certain points depending on where students live.

The bus is aimed at females who may have been separated from their friends or partners and are on their own. Although the bus is not aimed at groups of girls, they will still be able to use it.

Emma Bartlett, Women's Officer, said that "I think the university safety bus is a good idea and provides an invaluable service to girls. It helps promote student safety."

As well as the bus driver, a female member of staff will be present on the bus and males are not allowed on the bus for safety reasons.

As many of the events organised by the Students' Union are based in the town centre as well as on campus, Ben Lucas, manager of Ents, the team responsible for these events said that, "student safety at all S.U. events is paramount. We arrange hundreds per year from small live shows at our own venues to big city centre club nights at the safest Swansea Venues. Our track record is evidence that the great attention we pay to student safety has been very successful. We are constantly striving to increase our very high standards by identifying and negating any possible risks."
