Warm Welsh welcome for international students

The new international students for this academic year were invited on 11 October to Swansea University's annual 'Welcome for International Students', which invited more than 500 students from over 50 countries, took place.

The welcome for the international students was hosted in the National Waterfront Museum, followed by a Civic Reception at the University, which was attended by Professor Richard B Davies, the University's Vice-Chancellor, and Councillor, Ioan Richard, the Deputy Lord Mayor.

The international students welcome was organised so that the students could experience the diverse cultural mix of Swansea and the country in which they will study, Wales. The students were entertained by and experienced all things welsh and proud, such as Welsh folk dancing and were able to sample Welsh food such as bara birth, welch cakes and welsh rarebit to name a few.

Kylie Bartelli, Students' Union International Officer, told The Waterfront that this years Welcome for the international students was "a success" and that there "was a big response". One student from the United States who attended said that they, " wanted to see and meet with people [they] wouldn't normally go out with."

For those internaional students that missed this event, another International Fiesta has been organised in DV8 on the 26th October.
