New York, New York

There is so much to see and do in the Big Apple that it is almost impossible to find time in one short trip. Luckily, when I visited earlier in the summer, I was staying with people who knew where they were going and what's best to see, which was a great help! So for those of you not fortunate enough to have personal tour here's my guide to the city's top attractions.

Time Square is a must see, and if you're visiting Manhattan, it is inevitable that you will come across it. Everywhere in Manhattan is chaotic and busy, but Time Square represents the colourful chaos in a nutshell. Everything is essentially so huge that you feel like a needle in a haystack so if you don't like being in crowds, Manhattan definitely isn't for you. However, for many the pure buzz of a city that really never sleeps will be absolutely exhilarating.

A slightly more relaxed atmosphere can be found in the heart of NY, Central Park. The place is still always full of people, particularly joggers, but has a definate calmer feel to it. For sheer size central park cannot be truly realised until you are above it - this can be best done at the top of the Rockefeller centre, where you get panoramic views of most of Manhattan and beyond.

The islands entertainment hub is Broadway, something else that really cannot be missed when visiting New York. It's generally cheaper than back here (as are most things), and during weekdays you can often get good seats for your money. When I was there 'The Producers' was on, a very surreal but hilarious show about two men trying to make more money out of a flop Broadway production than a successful one. With guaranteed quality productions all year round at reasonable prices this comes highly recommended.

If you want to make even more of your dollars, then hit the shops. Big department stores such as Macy's and Bloomingdales are worth a visit just for their sheer size, but if it's a bargain you're after then shop elsewhere.

Next up the ultimate tourist experience, take a ferry for Liberty Island to see that world renowned Statue. It really is worth a look and some good photographs can be taken, particularly from the ferry. With all the main tourist spots, be careful not to just pass them by, as it's easy to get caught up in the crowds without really noticing what the fuss is really all about.

There are a million and one things to do in this vibrant and exciting city, and if you ever happen to visit try and fit in as much in as possible, because you'll kick yourself if you don't! Also, if you're a keen photographer then New York really does have some amazing opportunities for some great snaps. I found that it is one of those places you could go to time and time again…it really is the city that never ever even calms down, let alone sleeps.
