High priced panties

The Pinkathon on Monday 16 October was another huge success for RAG, with all money raised going to the Breast Cancer Campaign. With events throughout the day and night, the event broke the previous record of approximately £900 (set in 2004) and raised £1396.66 at the first count - nearly twice as much as the previous year - for this worthwhile cause.

Beccie Parr, the current President of RAG, put the success down to their dedicated team bonding, saying that "This year's committee is so much closer, all the socials we did at the beginning of term have really paid off!"

The Pinkathon is a fun approach to raising awareness and cash for the often taboo subject of breast and testicular cancer.

This year's events were kicked off in Fulton House with a cake sale. Thanks to the hard work of the volunteer Raggies, some of whom Beccie said had been helping out all day with the bakesale and reminding students about the evening's entertainments.

DV8 opened with the same high spirits and enthusiasm, which helped make the night a great success.

The events in DV8 were certainly original, with the newly formed Pink Stripes performing their own renditions of "Sweet Home Alabama" and "Johnny B. Goode", which considering they'd only had a couple of practices on the night, wasn't half bad.

Also on the bill were the all American, line-dancing Dolly Pinktons, who charmed the crowd with their dazzling display.

Next, the Pinkathon dancers consisting of the RAG committee and the Sabbs, took to the stage with a beautifully choreographed routine. The sight of strapping young lads in women's underwear, complete with balloon 'boobs', strutting their stuff to Shania Twain's 'Man! I feel like a Woman' was highly entertaining.

The girls sported impressive 'packages' and Y-fronts to do their bit for testicular cancer awareness. With yummy pink and blue cocktails bringing in even more money for RAG, plus events including a dance-off and games with bananas, it certainly wasn't your average night out.

The night climaxed with the underwear auction where a huge £250 was raised. Winning bids started from £3, and included Chugga, who was sold off along with his bra for £15, to a staggering £85 for RAG president Beccie Parr's pants. Overall, the night was a great fundraiser and the entertainment surpassed last year's expectations as well as the total.
