Green Room moves to JC's

The Green Room that was next to the on-campus club DV8 has officially closed.

The Green Room has moved to the non smoking side of JCs. The decision was made in the summer when the student body was not on campus, resulting in a lack of communication amongst the students. Owen Morris, Students' Union Treasurer, said, "The Green Room's poor location affected its business. When it became a non smoking environment, people just moved to JCs." The move was a result of a lack of financial resources available to keep the Green Room open. The staffing costs outweighed the profits of the Green Room.

The JCs development is set to be ready for the new year. Soft furnishings, leather chairs and coffee tables will be included in the re-vamp in order to make the new Green Room. Owen Morris said, "It will be a more sophisticated place." Even though the decision for the move and refurbishment was made in the summer, the refurbishment plans have been delayed due to Fulton House being a listed building.

Some students have voiced their concerns about the lack of non alcoholic spaces available for students. Owen Morris said, "The Green Room still had alcoholic beverages. Just because they were not sold does not mean they were not available."

The former Green Room, now known as 'D2' will accommodate for the over spill in the newly refurbished DV8. D2 will function as a bottle bar and have its own DJ and sound system. This will give the students a choice of two types of music. During the day, D2 will still be available as a general function room for societies to use.

Owen Morris said the changes in JCs would create a "more cosmopolitan atmosphere", and together with the re-fit in DV8, D2 will create a "stronger identity" for DV8 as a whole.
