Student's at a last International Fiesta

International fiesta No. 4

29th January 2007

An international fiesta will be held on the first of February in DV8, starting at 8pm.

This year's event will feature scenes from the 'Godfather' films on screens in the background, pizza, foreign cocktails and sangria. Those who do not drink alcohol are welcome with non-alcoholic drinks also being available. This event promises to be an opportunity to experience music from around the world. Kylie Bartelli, International Officer at the Student Union - the event's organiser - describes the event as "a way for people to make friends, in a relaxed atmosphere" with the overall aims of the event for it to be "more friendly than DV8 on a Friday and Saturday night."

The admission fee will be £2, with tickets being available from the Ents Office or on the door - however, they are selling quickly, so get yours early to avoid disappointment.

Previous events have also included buffets for over 250 people. In addition, more seasonally applicable events have also included a Santa giving out presents to attendees. The SABs band 'Pink Stripes' have also played in previous years.

Last year the attendance was approximately 350 - with sales of tickets currently out stripping last years substantial total. At the last Student Union event, the cosmetic and beauty company 'Lush' provided hand massages and other beauty products to students.

"Each event is different" said Kylie Bartelli, "with the distinct purpose to attract people who would not normally go to other types of social events."

For those who have ordered International 'hoodies'; they are available from Kylie's office and cost £20. For those wishing to order them, please e-mail your size and student number to Kylie.

All money raised from the event will be put back into Student Union funds to help to finance initiatives to support students.
