People chilling out in Just Coffee
People chilling out in Just Coffee

Welcome to the new JC's!

29th January 2007

Over the Christmas period, JC's, the campus Students' Union bar on the second floor of Fulton House, has had its non-smoking side refurbished.

The new area has been given the logo 'Just Coffee', a pun on the fact that the coffee it serves is made using only Fair Trade coffee beans, and has been designed to look more like a café and less like a student bar. The new coffee area is priced for students and serves hot drinks from standard tea to Columbian Filtered coffee.

Philip Dunn, a JC's manager, said, "The refurbishment was completed smoothly and within the budget. It's a good addition to JC's and we're happy with it. I should also say that it is cleaned thoroughly and regularly and kept to a high standard of hygiene."

The renovation is the first half of a complete revamp of JC's. The smoking half of JC's is to be refurbished in the same style as the new nonsmoking area during the Easter holidays, in order to coincide with the smoking ban. A JC's staff member, who did not wish to be named said, "This term has started slowly but that is almost certainly down to the exam period. When exams finish we expect business to pick up straight away."

Although the area has been designed to accommodate coffee drinkers, alcohol will still be permitted to be drunk in the new area.

Smoking however, is still banned.
