News in brief from around the country. In this issue: a tribute concert is held, a pensioner's flat is burgled in Sketty, and a fight begins to save a pub from demolition.

Tribute to Ben

A tribute concert was held at Swansea's Grand Theatre on 22 January for Ben Bellamy, who was murdered in September 2005 on the Swansea seafront. The concert featured more than 100 performers and was hosted by actor Richard Mylan. The show honoured Bellamy's memory and raised money for the NSPCC and Mothers Against Murder and Aggression. Bellamy was walking home when he was robbed, beaten, and left to drown by the beach.

Pensioner burgled

Gwyneth Davey, 65, was attacked by a burglar at her flat in Sketty, Swansea. She received facial injuries and required stitches for cuts. Davey heard a commotion and when she found the intruder, told him to get out. When he apologized and looked like he was ready to leave, he suddenly punched her in the mouth. The suspect is between 20-30, is 6ft tall, and was wearing light coloured jeans and a darkcoloured hooded top with the hood over his head. Call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111

Llanelli arson

Police are searching for witnesses after a 48-year old woman's Llanelli property caught fire and left the woman in a serious condition. Police are investigating the currently unexplained cause of the fire and are looking for anyone who may have saw anything suspicious at the time. Firefighters came to the Bryn Terrace flat around 04:15 and the woman was later taken to Swansea's Morriston Hospital in a critical, but stable condition. Witnesses should call Llanelli Police Station on 0845 3302000.

Fight for pub

Landlords John Nurse and Vicki Halliday are sending a petition around in hopes of saving their 200-year-old Llanelli pub from demolition. The Island House is set to make room for a shopping complex. So far, it looks like the pub may meet its demise, but 250 people have signed the petition and are still fighting to save it. Negotiations are currently being presented and hopefully the issue will soon be resolved.

Recordist sues BBC

Adam Jones, 45, is suing the BBC for negligence after he was working on location in Pembrokeshire and was paralysed when a wind turbine fell on him at a Brithdir Mawr farm. He's also suing farm owners and cameramen John Rees and Bobby Bazalgette who were lowering the mast for repairs. Jones told the
