RAG week

The University's annual RAG week is approaching and will take place from 26 February- 2 March. RAG week provides the society with its second largest income after the Beer Race. There are lots of events planned for the week to help ensure that students have fun and plenty of money is raised for the society's charities.

The week begins on Sunday 25 February with a RAG quiz and/or Live and Wired in DV8. Monday 26 February will see a stall in Fulton House selling RAG mugs and raffle tickets during the day, and the popular Slave Auction, where students have the chance to bid for dates with the RAG committee and Sabbatical officers, will take place in the evening in DV8 from 7p.m. The event has a black tie dress code.

A Deal or No Deal event will be held in Woodys in the student village from 7 pm onwards on Tuesday 27 February. There will be raids along Wine Street in town the following evening, Wednesday 28 February, for which students have to wear fancy dress. Details of the bars to be visited will be confirmed at a later date because it is not yet clear which bars will allow RAG to collect money in tins.

Thursday 1 March will see RAG hoping to collect lots of money at its biggest events of the week because it is also St David's Day. There will be stalls and music in JC's and at the front of Fulton House during the day, with other societies getting involved as well. DV8 will hold a Welsh Live Music Night during the evening, called 'dRAGon Load' at 8p.m. Several bands will be playing, including: Kali Mist, Decadence Smile, an emo band, Aligo Amigos, and indie band, and Apollo, a blues/rock band. Tickets will cost £3 in advance and £4 on the door.

Many helpers are needed throughout the week, especially on 1 March to collect money and sell raffle tickets. Sheryl Ernshaw, from events and publicity said that: "We need lots of support for these events to make it worthwhile for our charities!" RAG week will finish on Friday 2 March with a 'childhood memories' event, in conjunction with Tooters. Students must come in fancy dress with a childhood theme, such as Power Rangers or The Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles.
