A round up of news from universities across the world. In this issue, UCL launches a certificat in child safety on the internet, Cardiff students are offered the chance to study on a cruise ship and a college president at Oxford University is found dead.

Lancashire

The University of Central Lancashire has launched the first university certificate in child safety on the internet. The qualification has been aimed at education and child welfare professionals to ensure they have a full understanding of the risks to children from the internet.

Brookville NY

Five college students have been stripped of residence hall jobs and are facing campus hearings over a video that mimics a hostage taking. In the video, the five figures in ski masks spoke in crude Middle Eastern accents as they threaten a mock captive - a rubber duck.

Cardiff University

Students at Cardiff University are being offered the chance to study on board a cruise ship as it travels around the world. The Scholar Ship will make its maiden voyage in September with 600 students on board. During the 16 week trip it will visit eight countries on five continents. Five places have been reserved for students from Cardiff University.

Imperial college London

An international team of scientists from the university have said that storing tiny bubbles of Carbon Dioxide underground could substantially reduce the emission of harmful green house gases.

Canterbury Christ Church

The university's governing body is in disagreement with students and academics over its decision not to allow same sex 'weddings' on its premises. The university does not allow civil partnership ceremonies at two properties it owns in Canterbury and Tunbridge Wells.

Oxford

A college president at Oxford University has been found dead in his student bedroom. Thames Valley Police say that the death of Andrew Mason, 20, is "unexplained but not suspicious." College authorities expressed their shock.
