Review: Angel-A

Angel-A is the ninth of ten planned films from Leon director Luc Besson, and looks to continue his vein of long-legged beauties as seen in culthit The Fifth Element.

The beautifully shot Parisian-set monchrome tale follows down-on-his-luck Andre on the verge of suicide before the enigmatic Angela intervenes. The disabled hustler soon comes to realise that the beautiful Angela has a more existential quality than he had bargained for, as she offers him an escort through the remainder of his incident-filled day. The privately shot piece has been criticized as not being anywhere near vintage Besson but then that is a high-bar to reach. This is still very much worth a look when it descends from above in May.
