Prince Harry to serve in Iraq
The MOD has announced that Prince Harry will go on operations with his Regiment, the Blues and Royals, when it is deployed to Iraq for six months. Harry is said to be "over the moon." He is the first royal to be deployed overseas since the Falklands
NZ fishermen catch giant squid
Fishermen in New Zealand have caught a squid 10m (33ft) long, and weighing about 450kg (990lb) it is the largest specimen of the species ever caught. The squid was frozen and brought back to New Zealand for study.
Prime Minister emails 1.8 million
Tony Blair recently emailed 1.8 million people who signed an online petition against the expansion of the congestion zone in London. According to the BBC it cost £6,000, as opposed to £537,583 to send it by Royal Mail.
Zimbabwian protests quashed
Protests in Zimbabwe have been banned for three months as President Robert Mugabe celebrates his 83rd birthday. This follows clashes between the police and the group MDC, or Movement for Democratic Change.
Thatcher cast in Bronze
A statue of former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher has been placed in the House of Commons. At the unveiling of the statue she remarked that "I might have preferred iron, but bronze will do. It won't rust."
