Iceland trip update

On 24 March, four Swansea students will be traveling to Iceland to cross country ski from the north of the country to the south.

Gareth Huw Richardson, Seb Van Lochem, Dave Dew and Graham Jackson will be raising money for their trip with sponsorship and donations. They also hope to raise money for Casa Herbalife, a program designed to provide children around the world with healthy and nutritious meals.

The expedition team will leave Iceland's northern capital Akureyri in early April and spend 14 days crossing 140 miles of barren snow bound terrain that includes two of Iceland's glaciers, the Hofsjökull and the Langjökull.

The trip is expected to last three weeks and to take the group 140 miles through snowstorms, over crevasses, across ice fields and up and down glaciers whilst the group carry their provisions and shelter on large sledges.

They have also been warned that due to the vast distances between their route and civilization that any significant navigational mistakes would make it extremely difficult for the team to reach any rescue services.

Herbalife has already contributed £600 to the team, which will go towards sledges and equipment but the team will need to raise £700 each before they have paid off the flights, equipment and supplies.

They hope to raise £1000 for their chosen charities.
