RAG week raises £1,100

Swansea University's annual RAG week events raises an impressive £1100 for charity.

Swansea University's Raising and Giving Society are celebrating after once again raising a substantial amount of money for charity during their recent annual RAG Week.

To start off the week of charity events, JC's hosted a slave auction on Monday 26 February. RAG president, Beccie Parr, raised the most money, after being auctioned off for a massive £180. Her pants also raised a large amount of money at the Pinkathon just a few months ago.

Gnomes were popping up all over campus on Tuesday. RAG members dressed as gnomes lightheartedly went round following students to give money towards the cause.

The gnomes certainly provided a few laughs around campus, RAG committee member, Kerri Denman said "everyone thought it was really funny." Swansea student Aled Bryant said "the gnomes were really funky and they were a great idea to raise cash for charity." With gnomes being spotted in lecture theatres and following people around in the rain, RAG members were clearly committed to the cause.

A Deal or No Deal night was held on Wednesday at Woody's with a collection at the end of the night amounting to £100 and on St. David's Day RAG added to their grand total setting up a stand in JC's selling cakes. Kerri Denman said, "we were at JC's all day, it worked really well."

The week of events finished in DV8 with a 'Childhood Memories' night. Students and even the Tooters DJ, wearing a Scooby Doo costume, dressed up and had some fun for the cause. Kerri Denman's favourite costume of the evening being those of the Thunderbirds who she thought had put so much effort into the complete costume. Other costumes that made an appearance on the night included cowboys, fairies and even dalmatians, all contributing to a triumphant night of fun and raising money for charity.

Kerri Denman says "we are just recovering from RAG week, but hopefully we may do something for Comic Relief."

She also adds that they are on target to raise more money that ever before and are pleased with the huge success of this year's RAG week. She also thanked the entire student body on behalf of the RAG committee for their outstanding support and contribution for the cause.
