Up all night

The 2007 Sabb Elections were completed last night, with a late count that didn't see the last result announced until almost 6am this morning.

Owen Morgan succeeded in retaining the office of Student Union President, winning with 989 votes and beating Beth Hodge into second place, gaining more votes than when he won his first term last year.

Nick Cooper will follow Owen Morris as Treasurer, after winning the race ahead of Richie Lewis, securing 881 votes against a total of 719 votes.

The new Welfare Officer, Nick Morgan, won 784 votes to take the position from second place candidate Sheryl 'Shem' Earnshaw, after a mammoth five rounds of counting.

The position of Women's Officer will be filled by Nel Richards, who won a competitive election from Laura 'Metal' Hancock, securing a total of 854 votes after four rounds of transfer that saw all other candidates knocked out.

Stuart 'Chugga' Jones will retain his post as the Education Officer, after winning a straight two-way fight against Chris Randall, securing 1,539 votes, from a total valid vote of 2,066.

The International position will continue to be filled by Kylie Bartelli, after she beat off a strong field, forcing Bola Ogundeji into second place having secured 913 votes after four rounds of voting.

Stuart Rice, Student Union General Manager, reflected on the campaigns by saying that "This has been an exceptional election with the highest turn out ever in the Student Union's history."

Rice considers the election to have "Probably one of the largest turnouts across the whole of the UK this year. This massive turnout is a credit to all of those who have been involved in campaigning for candidates in this election, and to the candidates themselves. It was certainly an eventful few days."
