Students soak up sun at May Day Fest

Thursday 3 May saw the "May Fest" festival take place on Fulton House lawn at Swansea University. The event was organised by Nathaniel Reed, a 2nd year Linguistics student.

Reed stated that, "The May Fest was a really great day. There was no one group who made the May Fest; it was a collaboration of many people from Swansea University. The engineering department were also extremely helpful as they supplied us with electricity."

The May Fest, which began at 10.30 a.m. encompassed much more than a party. It was also a successful collaboration between societies, the Estates department and many others. There were marques on the lawn, (leant by Discovery), which were used by societies in order to promote themselves. The Christian Union also provided a barbeque, selling burgers for 30p and all profits will be going to the 'Tear Fund', a Christian relief agency which works in third world countries.

Thomas Martyn, from the Christian Union, who organised the barbeque, said that, "The May Fest was such a great idea and we really wanted to help out. The day was really about us sharing our beliefs with the other students. We provided the students with good food and they hopefully got an experience of what Christians believe in. Overall we had a great day. Thanks to everyone who bought our food and hopefully we may have raised some money for charity."

The Taliesin were also giving out posters, whilst Discovery was handing out leaflets on volunteer projects. The Heal Society's Samosas also proved to be a success, with students as they sold out within an hour.

There were also performances from the: Dance Society, Cheerleaders, Swansea Bay Dockers (winners of the battle of the bands), Visual Arts, Xtreme radio also provided DJs throughout the day.

"The students really appreciated the performances, food, and the music. They made the day complete and without them the day could not have happened. It was really relaxing" said Reed.

Emma Partington, 2nd year Law, Crime and Policy, stated that, "It was really fun. We had fun cheerleading! The music was great and the atmosphere was awesome.

Owen Morgan, Students' Union President, said that, "It was a good day, with lots of people involved. The Christian Union, Discovery and Societies were amongst the groups that made it happen. Well done. "
