Dr. Rowan Williams to deliver inaugural Theology lecture

The Archbishop of Canterbury will be delivering the inaugural lecture of this year's Theology Public Lecture Series at the Taliesin Theatre on 13 October at 4 p.m.

The Most Reverend and Right Honourable Dr Rowan Williams, a native to Swansea, will be presenting a lecture on 13 October at 4 p.m. in the Taliesin theatre on the topic of 'How to Misunderstand Religion'.

Dr. Williams will challenge contemporary critics such as Richard Dawkins and Christopher Hitchens.

Prior to being appointed the 104th Archbishop of Canterbury, (leader of the worldwide Anglican Community) Dr Williams studied for an M.A. in theology at Christ's College, Cambridge and researched a D.Phil. in Russian Christianity at Wadham Collage, Oxford.

Dr Williams was also the Lady Margaret Professor of Theology at the University of Oxford between 1986 and 1992. Dr. Williams appointment as Archbishop of Canterbury made him the first clergyman to be appointed to the post from outside the Church of England in May 1992, he was enthroned as Bishop of Monmouth at St Woolos Cathedral in Newport and in February 2000 was enthroned as Archbishop of Wales.

He is also a fellow of the British Academy. Furthermore, during his illustrious career he also undertook positions as a Tutor at Westcott House, Cambridge; Dean and Chaplain of Clare College, Cambridge; Canon Theologian at Leicester Cathedral and Canon Residentiary of Christ Church College, Oxford.

The organiser of the lecture, Swansea University Chaplain Rev'd Nigel John has described the lecture as "a hugely important occasion for the Church, for Swansea University and for the City as a whole".

The lecture is open to everybody and attendence is free.
