Ozzy the Osprey and the Love Chicken
SU promotes healthy living
12th February 2007
The Students' Union Love Chicken and Ozzy the Osprey came together to meet and promote the Healthy Living campaign endorsed by the Student Union. The mascots met at the Liberty Stadium to shake hands and to promote the idea of healthier living at Swansea University.
Ozzy the Osprey is a strong symbol of healthy living and is a familiar mascot to both children and adults.
The Love Chicken is a fairly new mascot created by the Students' Union, but he has gained recognition and popularity across campus. In September, he was presented as a mascot for healthy living. The Love Chicken promotes exercise and healthy diets to students, and has even ventured out into town to spread the word.
Miles Goodman, Welfare Officer in the Students' Union, has been running this campaign since the beginning of term.
"The Healthy Living Campaign is a priority campaign this year at the Students Union and Healthy Living is, nationally, on the tip of everyone's tongue— recognition of the fact that people are certainly more aware of the benefits of a healthier lifestyle," explains Goodman.
The campaign covers mental, social and physical health, and aspires to promote and succeed in changing people's lifestyles for the better, and overall improving the quality of life.
After the meeting and the shaking of hands, the Love Chicken admits that meeting Ozzy the Osprey at the stadium was a highlight for him and he hopes it continues to raise awareness for the campaign.
