Student is crowned Miss Swansea
12th March 2007
Swansea University student, Rachel Woods, has been crowned Miss Swansea after beating sixteen other contestants to win the title.
Rachel, 21, who won a modelling contract with Vibe as a result of the competition, is currently in her second year studying English and Language studies, and said that, "I am the first person to win Miss Swansea and it was a great experience. All the girls were really lovely, and I have made some good friends."
During the semi-finals, the contestants were supposed to take part in a car wash at Tesco, but due to the snow bagged up customers purchases instead and raised over £1,400 for the Joshua Foundation.
The Joshua Foundation provides holidays and experiences for children who have been diagnosed with terminal cancer and their families.
The next round of the competition will be Miss Wales, where Rachel will join the winners of Miss Cardiff and Miss South Wales Valleys, as well as the runners up from the regional finals. The Miss Wales final will take place in July, with a ball in aid of the Joshua Foundation, which will take place on Friday 6 July at The Holland House Hotel in Cardiff.
Paula Abbandonato of Vibe Models, who are organizing Miss Wales, said that, "The Miss Swansea round has been a great success. It is the first year that we have organised it and we were delighted by the response."
