The D of E group on their way to gold.
Duke of Edinburgh Group Strike Gold
08th October 2007
While most of you were enjoying the last few days of your summer holidays, spare a thought for the university's Duke of Edinburgh group, who were battling their way up Snowdon for their final expedition.
The group-Josie Deveraux, Rosie Jay, Charlotte Armstrong, Darius Garnham, Marc Rogers, and Jim Lovering-spent four days and three nights following a carefully planned route that was the culmination of weeks of planning and organising, beginning in spring term this year.
The route took them to the top of Snowdon. Despite fierce winds, heavy rain, swollen rivers and swampy marshland, the group completed the four days tired but in excellent spirits.
Highlights of the expedition include Josie's ability to find and step into even the smallest, most well-hidden potholes, Jim's spectacular somersault into a river, and Rosie's apparent appeal to sheep, which wouldn't stop following her round a campsite.
Nonetheless, they all had a lot of fun and would like to thank Pete for driving the minibus up there, Lucy and Katherine for helping them throughout the year, but especially to Seb for giving so much of his time to guide and teach the group. Congratulations too to Josie, who has now finished her Award.
