International Feista in DV8
First International Fiesta takes place in DV8
08th October 2007
Thursday 27 September saw the first International Fiesta of the term take place in DV8, complete with a performance from the band Thabani, a Roots-Soul collective who combine Soul, Afro and Groove influences with a modern contemporary edge.
The International Fiestas take place every month, with a different theme every time to appeal to as many students as possible and to encourage lots of students to come along and meet new people.
International Officer Kylie Bartelli said that she feels the International Fiestas are important as the students "get to mix and integrate in a more relaxed atmosphere than a normal DV8 night out or a night in Time and Envy, which many international students don't attend".
Kylie was keen to point out that the International Fiesta's are not just for the international students. Everyone is welcome to attend, and many home students who have been on a year abroad as parts of their studies attend the evenings. The International Fiesta's also prove popular with students wanting to practise their language skills.
Kylie was pleased with how the first event was received and said she had positive feedback, with, "lots of people asking when the next International Fiesta was before the night had even ended." The International Fiestas often offer raffles as well as great music to add to the atmosphere and Kylie encourages more people to come and be a part of the night.
The next International Fiesta will take place in DV8 on Thursday 25 October.
