Pinkathon Returns

08th October 2007

It's that time of year again to have a good old rummage down your tops and pants. That's right, RAG once again hosts the Pinkathon, one of the most enjoyable events to raise money for breast and testicular Cancer.

RAG stands for raising and giving, and it is their job and privilege to host a number of fun events to raise money for charities. Their activities help create numerous exciting events that students enjoy throughout the year.

The Pinkathon itself is designed to raise awareness and cash in support of breast and testicular Cancer. In order to do this, RAG uses and abuses the SABBS in order for you to get some good laughs and providing plenty of opportunities to offer donations. So what have they got planned to humiliate the SABBS this year, I hear you ask?

Last year the Pinkathon raised a phenomenal amount of £1400 which went straight towards Cancer charities. This years Pinkathon organiser Zoe Reed aims to smash that and raise even more money for charity. She says "The main aim of the Pinkathon is to raise awareness of Cancer, while providing a fun night for students with lots of entertainment."

This years events guarantee all sorts of fun and frolics. It all kicks off at 8pm on October 15 in DV8. Pinkathon will be hosting the usual 'auctions', this year the SABBs will be auctioning their underwear. That's right, you could own Owen Morgan, Nick Cooper or Kylie Bartlett's underwear, but make sure you have enough money because there is no doubt that they will be in high demand.

If underwear doesn't tickle your fancy, how would you like to see the SABBs guys dressed up as cheerleaders? They'll be donning the kits for you and taking to the stage to provide a one off unique performance. Not to be missed.

Opportunities for you to offer donations also come in the form of games, with prizes; raffles and here is one for everyone to enjoy, a kissing booth which will no doubt be one of the highlights of the evening. Refreshments are provided throughout in form of cocktails, pink and blue cocktails no less. Zoe states "the best part of the night will definately be the SABBS up on stage singing and dancing, and everyone will be laughing when they get into their cheerleader outfits."

The Pinkathon is not the only event that RAG organises. Throughout the year, they organise various events all in the name of raising money for charity. The infamous Beer Race is also on their list of events which many second and third years will be exceptionally familiar with. It is also known as the biggest fancy dress party of the year so get your thinking caps on now if you want to win the fancy dress prize.

Everyone is encouraged to attend and raise as much money as possible. If you have a spare bra or Y-fronts, why not pop them on the outside of your clothes to show your support; this is another regular tradition of the Pinkathon.

For all the help and effort they have put in Zoe and the rest of the RAG team would like to say a special thank you to Neil, of the photography society, the guys of DV8 and everyone who has helped with Xtreme Radio. If you like a good laugh and enjoy raising money for others in need, attendance is compulsory. If you do happen to miss the Pinkathon, keep an eye out for the other events RAG will be organising, such as socials and balls as they are always a blast.
