Longer library opening hours
22nd October 2007
Students at Swansea University can now enjoy longer opening hours at the library from this month, providing the longest opening hours of any library in the University of Wales.
The library will be open from 8am until 2am between Sunday and Thursday and from 8am until 8pm on Friday and Saturday.
The Director of Library and Information Services, Christopher West describes the library as the, "heart of the Swansea University Campus".
The increase in opening hours will be useful to the many students who want to take advantage of these longer opening hours over the Easter break to work on essays and coursework. Chris West says, "We recognise our users, particularly students, increasingly have time constraints on their busy lives. This flexibility in our opening times enables us to continue to provide them with a high-quality service".
In addition to providing library and information systems to some 14,000 students and staff, the University is also a partner in the 'Access to Libraries in Swansea Bay' (ATLIS) scheme. This scheme, which spans the entire City and County of Swansea and Neath Port Talbot is an alliance of all the library information systems in Swansea and aims to provide lifelong learning for anyone who lives, works, or studies in the Swansea area.
To take advantage of this scheme, all students need to do is to pick up and fill out the "Open to All" passport leaflets at any ATLIS library.
